How To Get U.S. Citizenship

U.S. naturalization eligibility checklist
To be eligible for naturalization you need to meet several requirements, including:
A period of continuous residence and physical presence in the U.S.
An ability to read, write and speak English
A knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government
Good moral character
An attachment to the principles of the U.S. Constitution
A favorable disposition toward the United States
There are exceptions to these general requirements. These may be based on a person’s age, the number of years that the person had a green card and mental disabilities.

If you got your green card based on marriage to a U.S. citizen, you can file for citizenship only 3 years after getting your green card instead of 5 years which is the normal wait time for all other legal permanent residents.
